Christmas at Nana and Papa’s

I’ve made a lot of posts today so I’m out of words. Pictures are better at telling stories anyway. However, I’ll explain the first pic since it is funny.

After our Christmas Eve party late Friday night, I asked Dad to take a belly picture with me because I had him take one one on Christmas Eve night when I was pregnant with Avery and it is a photo I’ve cherished. I look super funny in those jammies (got them so I could match Avery)and laugh every time I look at this.

Avery and I made this Gingerbread house a few days before Christmas. She loved it! She wanted to eat all the candy and icing and kept saying “Yum, yum, yum, Delicioso!” (Can you guess where she learned that?)

Christmas Eve

Every year for Christmas Eve, we go to my Dad’s side of the family and this year, Aunt Delores and Uncle David hosted. We always have a great time and Avery especially enjoyed herself because there were three babies (all around 3 months) and she loved them. She stayed next to them pretty much the entire time saying things like “I love her toes!”, “Ah, I love babies!”, “Look at her little hands.”, etc. I wonder if she is going to be as enamored with her little sister once we bring her home.

Hanging with Matt

Avery loves Matt! Matt likes to sit outside (away from all of us women) and watch his football and peel pecans. Avery loves to help him (eat the pecans). I walked outside to check on them and noticed he was no longer watching football but rather Toy Story. Ha!

Chilly December Morning

The sunrise was so pretty I couldn’t resist snapping a few

Hillary Graduated!

I’m so proud of you, Hillary! She graduated December 18th, the day after her 24th birthday, from Texas A&M University. We have a “House Divided!” with Matt and Hillary being Aggies and Scott, Dawn, and I as Longhorns so it always make for interesting times, especially during football season.

Thank goodness she wore gold shoes because that is how I was able to find her. She’s right there in the middle:

Again, she’s the one with the gold shoes :) getting her diploma:

Trying to keep Avery occupied during the ceremony was interesting. She found Daddy’s powdered donuts and was still for a bit:

Christmas with the Kocians

This year we did an early Christmas with my mom’s side and I already did a post so I’m just going to add the pictures. We had it at an old hall in Shiner where Dawn and I used to go for dance practice when we were younger. It really brought back lots of fun memories.

Avery now avoids looking at the camera which I’ve noticed in most pictures we take:

Christmas Parade

I’m a wee bit behind on my posts as December has been a wee bit chaotic with us still “between homes” and trying to make everything as normal as possible for Avery.   In early December, Matt, Dawn, Hillary, Jeff, Scott, Avery, and I went to the local Christmas parade and it was so cute.   For such a small town, they really went all out!  There were miniature horses, children singing Christmas songs, many cute floats, and of course, Santa made a special visit on the fire truck at the very end.  After the parade, we went to dinner right around the corner (food was great but the wait was LONG!)

Going to see Santa at the Christmas Parade:

Shopping Therapy

I wouldn’t necessarily say that I tend to enjoy shopping (unless it involves being in a fun grocery store like Central Market or Hubbell and Hudson) but there is something about shopping online on Etsy that makes me SO happy. I’ve found so many cute things on there and I love supporting the small shops. It’s like a daily treasure hunt! I think the thing that appeals to me the most is the fact that everything has such character and is so unique. Deep down, I yearn to be crafty and maybe that’s why I like this place so much. Maybe somewhere in my busy schedule (perhaps after the house is finished, the baby is born, the house is decorated, everything is settled), I will actually make time to fulfill my need for creating things rather than buying someone else’s creations.

Some of my favorite things:

How cute are these?  I’m going to use these in Olivia’s room for hanging precious little things.

Beautifully Vintage Clothespin Clips - set of 6

So precious:

Birdie Onesie

This is packed up in storage but I want to use it as a photo prop for Avery and hang it on her dresser.  She loves tutus so I know she will love this:

PETTISKIRT - Vintage Pink and Buttercream Ivory with Satin bow

I can’t wait for Olivia to wear this hat:

Dreaming of Flying au Naturel

Sadly, I purchased this for Avery to wear over the holidays but it is packed up :( because we didn’t anticipate being out of a house for this long.  I think I’m going to have to go dig it out.

These are going to go perfectly in Olivia’s room.  I usually don’t do themes but her sheets are Peter Rabbit toile so I’m collecting vintage and handmade Beatrix Potter things for her room.

I had two custom architectural renderings done for our new home featuring some of my favorite features of our old home and I’m going to have them framed and matted.  I’m so happy with them!  I actually got the idea from a well-known designer and loved the outcome of the framed collection so I thought I would do this myself for much less with architecture that meant something to me.  Here is one of the custom renderings featuring :

Christmas Card 2010

Merry Christmas to everyone! We had a beautiful weekend in Shiner with my family. We did our big family Christmas this past weekend. My mom’s side of the family is really large so we decided to get together earlier in December (normally on Christmas day) this year so we could all make it. A post will come soon with updates of our festivities of the weekend. I will also update soon with new pictures of our home.

I love the holiday season :)

Between Homes

The last several weeks have been beyond hectic for us. We are currently staying with my sister and brother-in-law (so thankful that they have graciously shared their home with us) and are desperately trying to get our house finished so we can move in and let Dawn and Matt get their lives back to normal as well. It has been a roller coaster ride to say the least. I’ve been spending much of my time on the road everyday driving back and forth from our house being built to my sister’s which is an hour and a half drive. Scott has been driving back and forth as well since all of his customers are in the city.

Avery has been a trooper through this and Scott and I try to make her life seem as normal as possible amongst all the changes. Last week, my youngest sister watched her most of the week since she is out from college and this week, I drove her to school which is quite lengthy so she could get back to her normal routine and I could work, go to doctor appointments in Houston, meet with builder, etc. This isn’t how I imagined spending my holidays but it is the hand we are being dealt due to delays in construction and I’m so thankful for the support of my family and our health that I shouldn’t complain. We just didn’t expect it to be this way but such is life and I’m hopeful we’ll have our home very, very soon (before Christmas), especially since the baby is coming sooner than later.

I can see the light at the end of the tunnel and everything is finally wrapping up so both Scott and I are getting more excited now. It’s converting more and more everyday into a real home rather than a construction site.

As for Avery, I haven’t updated in a long time about what she’s doing nowadays. She is very sharp and amazes us everyday. One of the things I get the biggest kick out of is her love of puzzles. She has always been very good at them and puzzles are one of the few things that really grasp her attention. She has mastered many of the 3-4 year old puzzles that we have gotten her. She loves them all!

She is also pretending which has just started recently where she will eat her pretend ice cream and share with me. She will catch her pretend bird and give it to me and tell me the bird says “Chirp, Chirp” and is yellow. Her imagination has really blossomed which I just love. St. Nick came a few days ago and brought her a few fun things and she now uses the boxes and pretends that she has presents in them. Everything is so magical to children at this age.

Some of the things she loves to do:
-asks on a daily basis to go to the park and we take her often (swinging is her favorite)
-loves to read books before bedtime and memorizes the words so she “reads” (by memory only) parts of the books with me;
-loves to watch Dora and Diego (and I mean loves, loves, loves Dora)
-loves to sing our favorite songs every day “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star”, “ABC’s”, “You are My Sunshine” and “Rock-A-Bye Baby”. Those are daily songs she has to sing but she also loves for me to throw in “Avery Had A Little Lamb” and “Itsy Bitsy Spider”
-still wants to be rocked every night which I still find funny because when she was a little baby she hated being rocked so I guess we are making up for it now
-she loves playing match on my Ipad

Funny things she says:
“I love it!”
“Awww, it’s soooo cute!”
Today she said “Of Course!”
“Okee Dokee Smokey!”
“Sorry!” (if she steps on your toes, etc)
“Thank you!” and “Please” are becoming consistent now without prompting

As for Olivia, my doctor says so far everything looks great. She is about 4 lbs now at 31.5 weeks. Avery was born at 8 lb 2 oz. Last weekend, we did the 4D ultrasound which was fun! We got to see Olivia’s face for the first time which was so amazing. I was holding my breath the whole time hoping we would see a healthy baby developing. Though the ultrasound wasn’t as clear as Avery’s was, we did get some pretty good glimpses of her. We will post the video soon. On another note, Olivia is a very, very active baby. Avery was active but Olivia is super active and kicks really hard.

This is my little rider as we have been spending a lot of time in the car recently:
